Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 1 pinch asafoetida


  • 250 gms dried black-eyed beans


  • 2 nos potatoes


  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric


  • 1/2 tbsp chilli powder


  • 1 litre water


  • 1/2 tbsp thyme seed


  • 1/2 tbsp fenugreek seed


  • 1 nos small clove ginger crushed


  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt to taste


  • 4 tbsp chopped coriander,to garnish


  • 4-5 tbsp oil


  • 1 tbsp masala

Directions

  • Soak black-eyed beans overnight. Drain the water when ready to cook.
  • Pour oil into a pressure cooker
  • Once the oil is hot, fry Thyme seed,fenugreek seed,cumin seed
  • Add potatoes after a minute
  • Add soaked black eyed beans
  • add the masala, ground coriander, chilli and salt and fry for 5-6 minutes, stirring regularly
  • Once you smell the spicy aroma (1-2 minutes), add 1 litre (4 cups) water
  • Close pressure cooker lid and wait till 7-8 whistles of pressure cooker
  • Garnish with coariander chopped and serve hot.
